New Elementary School

Project Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Completion Date: June 1998

Cost: $6,259,000

Size:  77,549 sq. ft.

The Omaha Public School District wanted to site-adapt a design previously used at two other locations, to be coordinated with the design of a new adjacent city park. The building was designed and oriented to compliment park functions coordinated with City Planners. A post-occupancy evaluation of the previous two buildings was conducted to refine the design for this facility. The design allows for flexible use of space and an isolated gymnasium and multi-use areas for after school activities. This design has been effective for the School District in translating their educational requirements into a well-organized learning environment, by providing individual learning spaces, teacher preparation areas and a multi-media distribution system serving all teaching areas. This school was designed as an 80 year school, using sustainable materials.

Design recognition National Design Award Winner “American School and University Magazine”.
