WOWT Television Station Addition & Remodeling

Project Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Completion Date: May 1982

Cost: $2,223,000

Size:  12,934 sq. ft.

Major expansion of the news room and production areas and interior remodeling of the WOWT Television Station was the main objective. New emerging technologies in the broadcasting industry required new space and operation changes to meet demands. The new area increased the existing station by 33%, which included the expansion of the news and taping editing rooms, a news studio, master control, engineering areas, and storage space. All work was accomplished as the station remained on the air during normal broadcasting hours. New exterior brick and Venetian glass mosaic tile were used to match existing. Interior remodel accommodated increased space requirements and created a new visual image for WOWT. A semi-circular reception desk was custom built for the Lobby Area. Special lighting and a logo designed of plexiglass emphasized this area as a focal point. Interior remodeling also included the Business, Advertising and Engineering Departments. Employees benefited from the addition of a physical fitness area and racket ball court. Energy conservation methods were incorporated in the design which included a new energy-efficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning system.
